Transformative private support is an important tool to help recruit and retain first-rate faculty, attract exceptional cadets and enhance academic projects and programs.
Endowed chairs and scholars
Government funding is sufficient to meet the baseline needs of USAFA academics and other mission elements. An even higher level of excellence is attainable, however, through private funding, attracting truly distinguished experts in their fields. Endowed funding can attract national leaders and preeminent scholars to devote their time and talent toward teaching and mentoring cadets and faculty. With academic leaders of this caliber, the Academy can provide research projects of national security importance across its 24 research centers and institutes, 21 departments and numerous majors and minors that will boost the level of academic achievement and real-world understanding for cadets.

Cases for support
Institute for Future Conflict Endowed Chairs
Visiting professors will be utilized to enhance the Academy Scholars Program. Cadets in the program will research a theme in support of the National Defense Strategy with the assistance of these experts. In addition, the Institute will support three endowed professors with one-year appointments who have specific research expertise. They will integrate with faculty, cadets and other researchers throughout the academic year in the areas of Future Aerospace Domain, Future Cyber Domain and Information Dominance.
CCLD Endowed Scholar Chairs
Endowed scholar positions increase the Center for Character and Leadership Development’s mission effectiveness and lend credibility to its role as a thought leader. In addition to current resident scholars in the study of the military profession, the CCLD also sees a need to expand expertise in critical mission areas such as character, leadership and human development.

Enhancing the
competitive advantage
Academic teams
Cadets have opportunities to participate in competitive teams in a variety of academic disciplines. The competitions challenge cadets to apply their knowledge to solve complex problems quickly in a team environment, developing leadership and teamwork skills they will need as officers. Representing the Air Force Academy, the dean of the faculty’s competitive teams bring the fighting spirit of the Air Force and Space Force to intercollegiate competitions across the nation. The teams include forensics, mock trial, Model United Nations, cyber competition and more.
Falcon Foundation scholarships
Support a cadetEach year, as many as 10,000 young men and women apply for admission to the Academy, vying for just over 1,150 open positions. The Falcon Foundation provides an opportunity for up to 100 applicants to attend one of five select prep schools where the students can strengthen their academic foundations, improve SAT and ACT scores, and be more competitive for Academy admission. More than 95 percent of Falcon Scholars gain admission to the Academy. Once there, they have the highest graduation rate of any entering cohort, and after graduation, they have the best retirement and retention rate of any graduating cohort. Two recent chiefs of staff of the Air Force were Falcon Scholars as well.
